Girl, slanted

Girl, slanted. Watercolor on Arches paper, 10″ x 14″.

If you think the color scheme in this watercolor is reminiscent of a few early fauve paintings, or something Jawlensky could have painted if less talented -you are right, I know my classics. It didn’t start that way though. I first painted the hair as I always do, and the dark “could be Prussian” blue dictated the rest and the use of a primary red and yellow.

What gives this away as something painted in the 21st century is the pose and look of the sitter -a straight import from our fashion magazines.

Just something quick and fun to paint on a week-end.
